Article 31 - Civil Status

Civil status matters of nationals shall be recorded in official registers established by law.

Civil status matters include, without limitation: name; birth; parentage; marriage; divorce; adoption; death; and such other status facts as law may prescribe.

Entries in civil status registers create a rebuttable presumption of the facts recorded and shall be accepted by public authorities unless corrected in accordance with law.

The State shall provide procedures for registration, amendment, correction, and annulment of entries, including procedures for combating fraud.

Certified extracts and copies of registers shall have evidentiary force as provided by law.
